2016 Board Elections and Committee Appointments

We are seeking candidates to fill two vacancies on our Board of Trustees. Alternatively, you can also contribute by sitting on a Board Committee.


Nominations are now CLOSED. Next years vacancies for Boards and Committees will be advertised in the Spring of 2017.




Who is eligible to become a Trustee?

  • A current Institute Member, Chartered Member, Fellow, Chartered Fellow, Companion or Chartered Companion;
  • Experience of operating at strategic level;
  • Ideally, experience as an executive or non-executive director.

Board of Trustees

There are a total of six elected members on the Board of Trustees and two places fall vacant each year. Elected Board members serve a three year term and are eligible to stand for re-election for a further term.

The Board of Trustees is at the centre of CMI governance. Board members are Trustees of the Institute, the CMI being a charity registered in England and Wales, and separately registered in Scotland. Their responsibilities are in essence identical to those of a non-executive Director who serves on a company board.

Committees of the Board

As an alternative to serving as a Trustee, CMI members across all grades sit on the various Board Committees, thereby contributing to policy and strategy across the Institute.

The Committees of the Board consider detailed policy issues across all areas of CMI activity and have delegated powers to act on the Board’s behalf, for example in making recommendations on membership subscriptions, the Institute’s Gold Medal and the Code of Conduct and Practice.

We are always looking for members to serve on our Committees, applying their general management experience and specialist knowledge.
