Ann Francke collects degree for outstanding achievement in business management and leadership
Ann Francke, the Chartered Management Institute’s (CMI) chief executive, has been awarded the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Business Administration by UWE Bristol. The university awarded Francke in recognition of her outstanding achievement in business management and leadership.
Francke was appointed as CMI’s chief executive in 2012. She is author of Financial Times Guide to Management: How to Make a Difference and Get Results.
Prior to joining CMI, Francke was global general manager at British Standards Institution, held executive board positions at Boots and Yell and was European vice president at Mars with responsibility for the pet care portfolio. Francke began her career at Procter & Gamble and managed a variety of international brands including Pampers, Always and Olay before rising to global general manager.
The honorary degree was conferred at the awards ceremony of the Faculty of Business and Law at Bristol Cathedral.
Ann Francke thanked UWE Bristol for the recognition:
“This is a great honour not only for me but also for CMI. As an organisation we work hard to raise the standard of management and leadership in businesses. I’m particularly proud to receive this honorary doctorate from UWE Bristol, with whom we’re developing a partnership to enhance student experience and employability.”
Noel Burchell, pro vice-chancellor and executive dean of the Faculty of Business and Law, commented:
“We have been struck by the strong leadership, energy and passion Ann applies to the improvement of management practice. In particular we applaud her work as a champion of diversity making good business sense. UWE supports the aims of CMI in helping train future managers and is currently investing in a £50m building to support business and law education."
CMI’s chairman Mike Clasper will deliver UWE Bristol’s annual Bolland Lecture on boosting productivity through professionalising management on 30 September as part of the Bristol Distinguished Address Series.
