CMI comments on Times Higher Education's World University Rankings

  • University rankings must ‘reflect the employability of graduates’

Ian Myson, CMI’s director of HE partnerships, commented:

THE’s World University Rankings miss the bigger picture by leaving out student employability. Identifying what matters most to students – as well as businesses – would help the HE sector address legitimate concerns about student satisfaction, value for money, and skills shortages.
Professional accreditation and attainment is recognised by employers as playing a crucial role in improving employability. The introduction of more practical aspects to a degree, as in the new degree level apprenticeships, will equip students with the necessary qualifications and experience needed to excel in the rapidly changing world of work. THE should watch and learn from the Teaching Excellence Framework and adapt its ratings to include the things that really matter.
