CMI wins Gold at App4England Awards

CMI takes Gold in ‘Support Organisation to Apprenticeship Sector’

Organisation recognised for its work in developing and promoting management and leadership apprenticeships.

The Chartered Management Institute (CMI) has claimed Gold at the App4England Awards, its first award for its work in the apprenticeship sector.

CMI was named in the ‘Support Organisation to the Apprenticeship Sector (Charity/Not-For-Profit)’ category at the App4England Awards ceremony held on Tuesday 7 March at London’s Grange Tower Hotel. More than 60 employers and organisations were shortlisted in the awards programme.

CMI was recognised just 16 months after the launch of Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship in November 2015. The trailblazer degree-level apprenticeship was developed by a group of more than 30 leading employers, including Serco, Nestle and Barclays, and supported by CMI. UK Universities has already tipped Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship to become the most subscribed of the new breed of degree-level apprenticeships to be created under the Government’s Trailblazer scheme.

CMI has also supported the development of other management apprenticeships to provide new pathways for employers to invest in their managers at all levels. This includes the introduction of the Team Leader and Operational Manager apprenticeships in June 2016, and the anticipated launch this summer of the Master’s level senior leaders apprenticeship.

Petra Wilton, CMI’s director of strategy, collected the award on behalf of CMI. Commenting, Wilton said:

“Winning this Gold Award at the App4England Awards is a great sign of how effectively CMI has worked in collaboration across the skills sector on this new apprenticeship agenda. In just 16 months, we’ve worked with a big group of employers and education institutions to launch a suite of trailblazer management apprenticeships that are changing how employers develop and upskill their management talent. Just 13% of employers are aware of the new degree apprenticeships.  So we’ll be using our win to help raise awareness of how investing Levy funds into management and leadership apprenticeships can develop the future talent needed to make UK’s business competitive.”

The App4England Awards were presented on the second day of the 10th National Apprenticeship Week. During National Apprenticeship Week 2017, the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) is calling on employers to start higher-level apprenticeships as a route to promoting gender diversity in their workforces and boosting productivity.

About Trailblazer management apprenticeships

The new breed of trailblazer management apprenticeships came to life in November 2015 with the launch of the Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship. This was designed by a group of more than 30 employers led by Serco and Civil Service Learning, and supported by CMI. CMDA enables apprentices to earn as they learn, gain a degree and achieve Chartered Manager status. The introduction of the Team Leader and Operational Manager apprenticeships in June 2016, and the anticipated launch this summer of the Master’s level senior leaders apprenticeship, provides a progression route for employers to invest in managers at all levels.

About CMI

The Chartered Management Institute (CMI) is the only chartered professional body for management and leaderships, dedicated to improving managers’ skills and growing the number of qualified managers.

Our professional management qualifications span GCSE to PhD equivalents, including the unique Chartered Manager award, which increases earning potential and improves workplace performance.

CMI has led the way in developing a suite of trailblazing management apprenticeships with a 40-strong group of employers. These start from Level 3 (team leader) and Level 5 (operations manager) through to Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship. A Master’s degree-level apprenticeship is in development, giving employers the option to upskill managers of all levels. CMI is a Skills Funding Agency-registered apprentice assessment organisation.

We provide employers and individual managers with access to the latest management thinking and with practical online support that helps them to embrace change, create high-performing teams and keep ahead of the curve.

With a member community of more than 140,000 managers and leaders, we promote high standards of ethical practice through our Professional Code of Conduct, and help managers to build their expertise through online networks, regional events and mentoring opportunities.
