Professor Denise Skinner has been named as the new chair of the Chartered Management Institute’s East Midlands Board. The business academic and Coventry University emeritus professor takes up her new role this month [October 2017].
Skinner is the former executive dean of the faculty of business, environment and society at Coventry University. She has now been appointed to head up CMI’s East Midlands Board for a two-year term of office.
Professor Skinner said:
I’m committed to championing excellent leadership and outstanding management practice in organisations. CMI plays a key role in this agenda and I welcome the opportunity to work with East Midlands Board to support our members at all stages of their career.
CMI is the only chartered professional body for managers and leaders and counts 157,000 in its membership, with nearly 8,000 members in the East Midlands. The regional board delivers practical support to its members and the wider management community, engaging with CMI’s higher education partners, employers and education providers, and hosting events in the East Midlands.
Recently, CMI partnered with Coventry University to help 3,000 post-graduate students in a range of academic disciplines to gain CMI-backed professional management qualifications.
Simon Bowen, CMI’s director of member engagement, commented:
Denise’s expertise in trust, diversity and change management aligns closely with our values and agenda, making her an ideal candidate to help CMI promote its work in the East Midlands. Her international academic reputation is hugely valuable to help CMI understand its student audience, and support CMI in developing the next generation to reach their potential. I’m looking forward to working with Denise to promote the benefits of CMI membership to students and the wider management population in the East Midlands.
Professor Skinner was also appointed a Companion of CMI, the highest level of CMI membership, following a successful career in a range of public and private sector organisations. Her career includes roles as owner of a retail SME, a board member of two private limited companies, and academic and leadership posts in a number of universities.
