Ioda partners with CMI to qualify 500 professional managers
A new agreement between Tadcaster-based training provider Ioda Limited and the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) will see 500 managers earn professional qualifications up to the internationally-recognised Chartered Manager status over the next 18 months.
As part of the agreement, Ioda will offer learners CMI-backed management qualifications at Level 3, Level 5 and Level 7, as well as the new breed of employer-designed Trailblazer management apprenticeships.
Students on the CMI dual-accredited management courses will also gain CMI membership and access to ManagementDirect, the CMI’s online portal, containing more than 15,000 study resources, which is used by tens of thousands of learners every year.
Since 1995, Ioda has become one of the premier training organisations within the UK, celebrating 22 years of delivering outstanding services to our clients and delegates. Starting primarily within the emergency services, the client base expanded across the public sector and into a wide variety of private and voluntary organisations.
Sally Dale-Stokoe MEd CMgr FCMI FInstLM Director - Ioda Ltd, commented:
Joining with the CMI as one of their strategic partners creates exciting opportunities for us to expand our already extensive services. It enables us to drive forward our dynamic leadership and management programmes through multiple channels, creating accelerated development for managers and leaders.
Our partnership blends CMI expertise in accreditation with our own 22 years’ experience of delivering outstanding leadership and management development programmes. Whether using the Apprenticeship Levy or funding these programmes directly, organisations quite rightly demand high quality, value for money and training that makes a difference. Our strategic partnership guarantees them just that.
A 2016 report by Investors in People found that poor management costs the UK £84bn a year in lost productivity. According to CMI research, seven in ten employers fail to train first-time managers, creating a problem known in business as ‘the accidental manager’. The agreement with ioda is another step forward for CMI in its mission to increase the number of professionally qualified managers and leaders.
Steve Heappey Director of Employer and Provider Partnerships at CMI, said:
In a tough economic climate there is no doubt that developing world-class management and leadership is essential to a company's growth, and I urge employers to make sure that they support their managers to become Chartered. We're delighted to be working with Hawk Training to give 500 managers the opportunity to gain the professional skills that will benefit their employers, as well as their own career development.
Over 25,000 people now study a CMI dual-accredited further education qualification every year, with more than 1,000 earning Chartered Manager status. According to CMI research, Chartered Managers add up to £362,000 of value to their employers through greater performance. Four in five (80%) of Chartered Managers report that professional accreditation has benefited their careers.

Notes to editors
The Chartered Management Institute (CMI) is the only chartered professional body for management and leaderships, dedicated to improving managers’ skills and growing the number of qualified managers.
Our professional management qualifications span GCSE to PhD equivalents, including the unique Chartered Manager award, which increases earning potential and improves workplace performance.
CMI has led the way in developing a suite of trailblazing management apprenticeships with a 40-strong group of employers. These start from Level 3 (team leader) and Level 5 (operations manager) through to Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship. A Master’s degree-level apprenticeship is in development, giving employers the option to upskill managers of all levels. CMI is a Skills Funding Agency-registered apprentice assessment organisation.
We provide employers and individual managers with access to the latest management thinking and with practical online support that helps them to embrace change, create high-performing teams and keep ahead of the curve.
With a member community of more than 140,000 managers and leaders, we promote high standards of ethical practice through our Professional Code of Conduct, and help managers to build their expertise through online networks, regional events and mentoring opportunities.
