The Institute is a Chartered body with charitable status. The Board of Trustees determines the overall strategic direction and development of the Institute through good governance and effective strategic planning.
The Board is supported by honorary officers sitting on the various Committees of the Board. Any member can contribute to our Committees as an honorary officer, whether newly qualified or experienced, a specialist or a generalist. Your skills and expertise will be matched against the skill sets required for the respective Committee.
Two new Committees have been added to the Advisory Committee structure: Qualifications Committee, which focuses on future qualifications development and compliance with the Regulators; and Management & Leadership Development Committee, considering strategic developments in the value propositions for members and employers.
About being an Honorary Officer
The 'Committee year' commences at the close of the Institute's Annual General Meeting, usually held in mid-October each year.
For each Committee role, candidates are sought with a background knowledge of, and expertise in, the policy areas that come under the particular committee’s remit. Committee members hold office for two years, and are eligible to serve for two further terms of two years, i.e. up to a maximum of six consecutive years.
The places on the Board of Trustees itself are subject to national election. Members, Fellows and Companions can put themselves forward as candidates, to serve for a three year term. They are assessed against an agreed set of Board competences. They may then go forward to a contested election, in which all Members, Fellows and Companions with a UK-registered address have a vote.
