Role and Development Priorities
Isabel is responsible for planning and executing the cycle of business of the University of Chichester's Board of Governors and its Committees, to ensure that all business is conducted in a timely and appropriate way and reflects best management practice.
She is also a member of the university's Senior Management Group and line manages a small group of staff who support the most senior managers.
The Appeal of Institute Membership
In 1995, Isabel was awarded joint runner up for the Institute's John Ellis Award, which demonstrates outstanding leadership and management practice and goes to the strongest candidate to have successfully completed the Certificate in Management. Isabel has found that being a Member of the Institute compliments her qualifications and brings attention to her management expertise: "I do not have a degree, but working in a university I find being able to use 'MCMI' signals that I do have a qualification which reflects the needs of my role - operational management being the most important."
Isabel also makes good use of the services offered by the Institute by using the Management Information Centre (MIC) to source publications and using Professional Manager and Management Today magazines to keep up to date with current management issues.
Ongoing Benefits
Over the years, Isabel has found Institute membership to be a fantastic tool for career development and progression. Both achieving Institute qualifications and working on continuous professional development has led to recognition of her competence within her role as well as promotion: "Five months into my Certificate in Management studies I was promoted to Clerk to the Governors."
