The nominations are now open for the CMI Awards of Excellence, our annual celebration of outstanding contributions to management and leadership. If you know a CMI member who’s driving change and innovation in their organisation, or excelling in other ways, this is your chance to give them some shine (and to give other managers something to aspire to).

A world of growth

Quality management is of course close to our hearts, and key to the future of this country. But it’s far from just a local issue. Anthony Painter, CMI’s director of policy and external affairs, wrote an op-ed for FE News this week, discussing the importance of effective management in a global context. In it, he compared the UK’s leadership challenges to those of countries like Japan, Germany and the US. 

Over in South America, meanwhile, La Nacion was using CMI’s research into better managers to talk about bad management practices and accidental managers in Argentina. 

Moving the needle

If the managers of the world are looking for tips, they could do far worse than turning to James Timpson, CEO of UK high-street stalwart Timpson. Here, James explains how he uses happiness within his organisation as a barometer of its success.

Working for our benefit

Finally, more from our tireless director of policy and external affairs. Anthony Painter was recently quoted in articles by The i and LabourList, which both cited CMI data saying that 80% of British managers believe workers’ rights should be prioritised in national policies.

Anthony was also quoted in a Birmingham Mail article examining the government’s latest crackdown on unemployment and sick leave benefits.
