The Northern Ireland Region of the Institute of Consulting in association with our sister organisation in the Republic of Ireland, the Institute of Management Consultants and Advisers (IMCA), will make a special presentation of the Award for Outstanding Contributions to Business and Economic activity in Ireland to Dr Martin Naughton.
This will be presented at a special gala presentation lunch, as part of a networking day, to be held at the Long Gallery, Parliament Buildings, Stormont, Belfast.
Martin Naughton is the founder and chairman of the Glen Dimplex Group. He started the company in 1973 as Glen Electric, with a mere ten employees, later acquiring Dimplex, the leading brand in the U.K. heating market. An engineer by profession, Naughton has overseen his company’s growth to become the world’s largest manufacturer in domestic heating appliances.
The theme for the day is Fostering Innovation, which will be addressed from differing perspectives by our three renowned and interesting speakers and also of course by our award recipient.
Past recipients of this award by IC are Senator George Mitchell, Denis Rooney and Feargal McCormack.

Ranger Andy was hit by an IED (Improvised Explosive Device) in 2008 whilst on tour in Afghanistan.
The force of the horrific blast lifted him off the ground and tore off his right leg it also burnt his corneas, leaving Andy blind. By complete chance, one of Andy’s comrades had been wearing a camera that was attached to his body armour and the events of that day were caught on film.
The incredible footage was used by the BBC for the Bafta winning documentary Wounded.
For seven weeks Andy was kept sedated while surgeons worked to remove the dirt from his wounds and fought to keep them infection free.
Ten days after he was brought in they were forced to amputate his leg. Not only has Andy had to learn to walk again, he also had to adjust to losing his sight.
Although an operation has restored some vision, his world remains blurred and distorted, he says this has been his biggest challenge.
Several years on, Andy has identified a number of issues where support for veterans living in Northern Ireland does not meet their need.
