From White Paper to Aircraft Carrier

With the recent naming of HMS Queen Elizabeth, the first of two new aircraft carriers for the Royal Navy, we have seen the culmination of a process which began almost twenty years ago and has cost billions of pounds.  But why does defence procurement take so long and cost so much?  Stuart Young, with his wide defence experience, will take us through the process from the formulation of government policy and setting of requirements, to the placing of contracts and cutting of steel.  In demystifying these activities he will discuss why it takes so long and assess whether you, the tax payer, is getting value for money.

The event will commence with a guided tour of the exhibits at 6.00pm, to be followed by refreshments and then the presentation.  Please ensure that you arrive by 5.45pm.

Additional Information

Please arrive at the main reception at approximately 5.45pm.  You will need to bring photo ID with you.
