Initially sponsored by Tods Murray, and now by Maclay, Murray and Spens, over the last five years, the Round Table has become a venue for lively and detailed discussion of all areas of ethical finance. These cover a wide range of activities, including:

ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) investment management based on behavioural screening, the development of financial instruments that are Shar’ia compliant, the provision of advice on ethical investment to private investors, the development of new products, such as Social Investment Bonds, where investor returns are based on the achievement of social goals, and the development of credit unions as a source of affordable credit.

This Thought Leadership event will debate what ethical finance in Scotland can and should involve. It will draw heavily on work carried out in response to the call made by John Swinney, MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Finance and Sustainable Growth, for the formation of a Scottish Ethical Finance Hub.  Presentations will include a review of the recently developed business case for the Hub, as well as insights into the challenges of operating businesses within the ethical space.  There will of course be substantial opportunities for debate and questioning as we examine the state and prospects of this rapidly growing segment of the financial services sector.
