What are mentoring, coaching and sponsorship? How do they differ and what are the benefits of each? Join us to hear why you should get involved and how your career can benefit from all these techniques, whichever side you sit.
Chris will be talking about how to make a mentoring relationship successful and the value to both mentors and mentees. She will also share information about the new CMI mentoring scheme, which is free to members.
Adrian will show how coaching and being coached can help you to achieve your own and your team’s goals and will provide some tips and techniques for both parties.
Chris will then conclude by demonstrating how finding a sponsor or sponsoring others can benefit your career with some advice on who should sponsor others, how to find a sponsor and what sponsors actually do.

Chris Baines, Director, Baines Craig Consultancy Limited
Chris has used a variety of techniques to guide and develop managers throughout her HR career and has trained as a mentor for both the Enterprise Mentoring scheme and the Cherie Blair Foundation for Women, for which she has mentored business women in South Africa and Macedonia. She was also a mentee in the pilot CIPD mentoring programme. Having come across some surprising research about the career benefits of sponsorship, she has also explored this area and will share her findings with the group.
Adrian Wales, Director, LPD Associates Ltd
Adrian is a professional Coach and Director at LPD Associates Ltd, who support organisational and people development through coaching and training programmes. Previous to this, Adrian was a senior manager in Post Office Ltd, leading and developing large and diverse teams in delivering some high-profile and politically sensitive projects.
Adrian has over 25 years’ experience in promoting cultural change within organisations and is a passionate advocate of the promotion of gender diversity in the workplace.
