Webinar - Diversity and Inclusion in the Workplace
Start Date: 06 Jun 2016
Start Time: 6:30 PM
End Time: 7:30 PM
Duration: 1 hour
Want to improve business results or recruit and retain the best talent? Enhancing your organisation's culture and approach to develop a diverse workforce can make the difference. This webinar will share practical advice, based on experience and case studies.
Today 1 in 9 in the workforce are caring for someone who is older, disabled or seriously ill and around 16% of working age adults have a disability, 83% of which acquired their disability later in life. Yet only 34% of people in the UK who work in the private sector and 55% in the public sector think their workplace is welcoming to people with disabilities.
The Office for National Statistics predicts a third of the working age population will be aged 50 plus by 2020. The proportion of carers and people with disabilities in the workforce is likely to increase significantly in the next few years. That’s a sobering thought to contemplate and manage.
This webinar will be led by experienced managers, Simon Howlett and Jo Strain, who have extensive backgrounds in the commercial sector and are two of the volunteers supporting the CMI Southern Region. They will share their knowledge and understanding of the opportunity and challenges of incorporating diversity from the perspective of both managers and employers. This online event will explore how your organisation can further develop its understanding and approach to diversity and be more inclusive of individuals with disabilities and caring responsibilities in your workforce.
Simon Howlett, a Chartered Manager (CMgr) and Incorporated Engineer (IEng), is a committee member of national BT Carers network, STEM ambassador, school mentor and youth leader. Jo Strain’s experience includes recruiting and developing high performance multi-cultural globally based teams; mentoring managers, raw talent and everyone in between; school and college STEM careers outreach and developing inclusive recruitment programs. Both Simon and Jo have personal experience of the challenges managers can face managing their own careers and balancing caring responsibilities.
