Eleanor Macdonald, OBE – founder of Women in Management and Inspirations for the Eleanor Macdonald Memorial Lecture

The founder of Women in Management, Eleanor Macdonald, was a fascinating character, who was passionate in her dedication to the advancement of women at all levels.

During the Second World War, she was an intelligence office and later became a director of Unilever, which was a considerable achievement for a woman in those days.   Being passionate about supporting women in developing their management careers, she founded Women in Management in 1969 and led the organisation until 1989.   She also conducted the first few workshops for the newly-created 300 Group, which aimed to get equal representation of women and men in Parliament.

In recognition of her achievements, she was appointed OBE and she received an honorary doctorate from Bradford University.
