The modern workplace is changing. As organisations seek innovative solutions to a challenging economic environment, businesses are trying different approaches to increase productivity, engage workers and encourage growth. Business operates in an interdependent world. They cannot succeed and prosper by throwing up barricades, working in silos and a culture of blame.
Collaboration is not a business end in itself. It is a means to an end. And that end is better business results. Collaboration should focus on where it can have the biggest impact on achieving business results – whether this is with partners or suppliers.
If the requirement to collaborate successfully is greater today than ever before, there are plenty of challenges to overcome. These include:
- Different cultures and behaviours, systems and processes,
- Tensions between collaboration and competition
- The leadership challenges in maintaining effective relationships between people and their organisations and meeting your goals
Based on the experience of successful organisations. BS11000 has been designed to enable successful relationship management and collaborative working within and between organisations and teams. It can be adopted as a set of principles, as a route-map to guide specific collaborative programmes, or it can form the basis for a total approach to collaboration.
This event will be an inter-active half day led by Eirian Lewis. He will set the scene by providing an introduction to the standard and how it is being used. In addition he will also give an insight into the implications for leadership, the behaviours and capabilities necessary for successful collaborative working, and these will then be discussed by delegates in round-table, with plenary feedback.
Eirian Lewis - Managing Director, TEAL Consulting
Eirian Lewis has over twenty years' experience in performance improvement and change. His focus is directed at facilitating change and business improvement in private and public sector organisations and in designing programmes that concentrate on creating individual, team and organisational effectiveness. He has extensive experience of performance management and process improvement including applying systems thinking, and designing and running customised programmes to apply these in different organisations. This includes an emphasis on co-creating sustainable change that delivers tangible business results.
He is currently working on a Collaboration programme which is designed to take account of the increasing need for businesses to work collaboratively across business including the supply chain and cross functionally within organisations. This includes the leader’s role in enabling a collaborative culture, building relationships, handling conflict and sharing control.
He is also a Senior EFQM Assessor and Master Practitioner with the Wales Quality Centre, and a trained Lean Sigma Green Belt. He is one of the custodians for the Windsor Leadership Dialogue.
