On Thursday 22nd September a networking business breakfast will be held during the University of Plymouth’s Graduation Week. The unique location of the University’s Graduation Marquee on Plymouth Hoe promises to provide a wonderful view and setting for this breakfast.
For the third in this series of events Gaenor Bagley, PwC, along with Dr Victoria Hurth (Plymouth Business School), Mark Beresford (PU Careers and Employability) and Jacqui Franklin (PU Degree Apprenticeship Account Manager) (biographies included below) will discuss the emerging concept of business ‘purpose’ and what it means for attracting and retaining talent.
The event, concluding at 9.30am, will also provide you with an opportunity to meet staff, students, alumni, and partners of the Faculty of Business, and network with other business leaders from across the region. We very much hope that you will be able to join us on this occasion.
Dr Victoria Hurth
Victoria works on solutions to environmental and social issues across the fields of academia, business and the third sector. Her background in marketing, initially working for 3M and then as a marketing consultant for Accenture has been supplemented by a MSc in Environment and Development in South Africa and PhD in Sustainable Consumption at Exeter University. She is currently an Associate Professor in Marketing at Plymouth University and her research includes advancing sustainable marketing and understanding philanthropic behaviour. Victoria has worked on various business consulting and sustainability community projects including being a founder Director of Bread and Roses CIC. She is a regional board member for the Chartered Management Institute, a Chartered Marketer (CIM), a Chartered Manager (CMgr), a Fellow of LEAD International, the UK Lead expert for ISO on Sustainable City Indicators and a board member of the Fleming Policy Centre.
Head of Corporate Purpose
Gaenor is a partner at PwC. On 1 July 2016, she was appointed to a new role as Head of Corporate Purpose. Prior to this, Gaenor served for 5 years people on the Executive Board of PwC. In this role Gaenor was responsible for all HR matters, including recruitment, training, performance management and engagement relating to the 20,000 employees of PwC in the UK. She was also the Executive Board member responsible for CSR. For three years prior to joining the Executive Board she was the Market Leader for private equity tax.
University of Plymouth
Mark is a Careers Consultant within the University. He currently leads on several employer engagement activities including managing the careers events team which support employers coming onto campus to meet students, the Employer face to face mentoring scheme to support professionals to engage with students to develop their career ideas and commercial awareness and also the Student Jobs service who support students finding paid part time work to fit around their studies and improve their employability skills.
With an extensive background within the Careers sector, from working in Schools, FE HE and the commercial sector, he believes strongly in how real work experiences can make a difference to both students and employers future development.
