The nature of contemporary leadership challenges should demand capabilities that are considered traditionally female, such as collaboration, empowerment, support and empathy. That said there are comparatively few women than men that reach the top echelons, despite starting careers in business and other professions with the same level of intelligence, education, and commitment as men (McKinsey Quarterly - Centered Leadership: How Talented Women Thrive). This SnapSession explores some factors that may impact on this, as well as looking at a ‘female’ model of leadership.
Aim: The aim of this SnapSession is to explore a concept of female leadership to support your leadership development, regardless of your gender! At the end of this session you will be able to:
- Explain how capabilities viewed as traditionally female can meet contemporary leadership challenges
- Use some key pieces of research to consider how female and male leadership can differ and why/if this matters
- Review your own leadership and action plan for increased effectiveness
