Some limitations

Hi Adi

Looks like you're doing a great job drumming up activity around here.  It's never easy starting a new forum off as people don't tend to get involved until they see significant levels of participation and of course you don't tend to have that from the 'off'.

*However*... I can't help feeling that you're incredibly limited by the software at the moment and that this could hamper progress.  For instance, there's nothing that allows me to 'view new posts' - a pretty much essential aspect of any forum for its regular participants.   There doesn't seem to be much search functionality either.  I can run a keyword search and that throws back results from both the forums and other places which I appear to be unable to access (presumably from other areas of the site), plus I can't readily search by user or view my own posts, etc.  I can't see my post count, view unanswered posts or do any of the seemingly basic things that you would automatically get with vBulletin or phpBB.  Until some of these are addressed, I think you may risk 'putting off' members who would otherwise regularly participate and I think that would really inhibit forum growth at the time when you most need it: at the start.

Paul

I agree with Paul.  I find this forum quite difficult to use, and I'm a forum junkie.  It was difficult to get into in the first place, but I persevered because of you, Adi.  If it had been any other forum I'd have just clicked away. (Perhaps you wish I had. LOL!)

This forum has a lot of potential because the members are very interesting, but the lack of functionality really is an inhibiting factor.

It is certainly a bit different to the other communities I participate on.  I do like the blogs and all that though, I guess you can't have everything.

Hi, new member just getting used to finding my way around the site. There's masses of really useful and interesting stuff which will be of great help to many I'm sure, and I'm looking forward to reading lots more.

I have one problem though, and hope that someone can help me. I'm trying to contact my local branch via the email link provided, but I get a message saying 'could not perform this operation becasue the default mail client is not properly installed'. It may be something to do with how my Outlook is set up, but I'm not particularly technological!

Any thoughts please?

Which Branch are you with John?

Hi John,

Thanks for your kind words about the site.  That does sound like a slight issue with Outlook at your end.  What you can do however is copy the email address straight into the 'to' field of your email if that makes it any easier?

Adi

I forgot to try that! Told you that technology isn't my strongest point!

Thanks

Hi. Although I'm linked to the Merseyside branch, for personal and business reasons I'm a bit of a nomad. I live between Liverpool, Manchester, Cheshire and North Wales!

Ooops! This post was meant to be in reply to Samantha's question.

No problem at all :)  Welcome to the forums by the way.  I'm the community manager so let me know if there's anything I can do for you.
