Samantha Godley - Tayside Branch

I hold a Post Graduate Diploma in HR Management and Level 3 Introductory Certificate in Management. I am currently studying towards a Psychology Degree with the Open University. I hold Graduate Membership with the CIPD and I am a Member of CMI.

I am Branch Secretary and Website Coordinator for Tayside CMI Branch and currently work for Guide Dogs, managing staff and volunteers across Scotland.

Between 2006 and 2008 I ran my own business part time. I researched other people’s family history for them.

If elected, I would like to raise the profile of CMI in Scotland through member engagement, encouraging greater participation and increased membership value. I would also like to increase links and support with and from local businesses.

I bring a great deal of enthusiasm, fresh ideas and experience to the Board, alongside a friendly, approachable manner and a proactive nature.

Dawn McKaig - Tayside Branch

I am currently the Managing Director of 20|20 Business Management a training and consultancy company which specialises in accredited, bespoke and customised learning interventions which meet the organisational and people development needs of our clients.

We deliver our programmes globally and work predominantly within the Oil & Gas, Engineering Construction Industry and the Public sectors. I have held this position for 2 years.

Prior to this I was the Director of Elite Events Scotland an Events Management company which specialised in educational events for children. I have over 20 years management experience both in the Public and Private Sectors and am committed to my own continual professional development.

I hold a postgraduate Diploma in Enterprise Creation and a BA (hons) in Criminology. I am a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute and also of the Higher Education Academy.

Andrew Rodden - Aberdeen City & Shire Branch

I have had a varied career to date that has allowed to experience various aspects of management in various cultures which has given me a different perspective on the influence that good management can have to the point where it can transcend these differences. I believe that the creation of the Scottish Board is an opportunity to drive the Institute forward in Scotland in terms of taking the expertise of its' members to develop best practice and a centre of management excellence.

If elected, I will bring drive and determination committed to working towards creating an Institute in Scotland that works for and with Members to promote best management practice, while supporting the work and identity of local branches.

Tony McCandless - Forth Valley

I am a Global Change Leader with Dell Corporation and both a Chartered Manager and a Fellow of the CMI.

I believe that the need for strong management and leadership is clear on a global and UK basis. At present, we are in the midst of a crisis, not at the end of it and to truly move to the new baseline for our country we need to make sure the people managing and leading our companies, public services and voluntary organisations are equipped with the best tools we can provide them with.

I believe that with the skills I have built up, my belief in integrity within leadership and management coupled with an ability to plan strategically and then execute against these plans that I could absolutely assist CMI in becoming more relevant and effective within the UK as a whole and especially within Scotland.

Colin McGrath - Borders Branch

I would like to serve on the new CMI Scottish Board as I was part of the team which developed this concept.

I am a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute and represent the Scottish Borders on the Scottish Committee.

A former Personnel Director of Stakis Hotels and currently a judicial member of the Employment Tribunal.

The CMI should be recognised as ‘the’ only professional organisation for management with membership being a requirement for any general management position, as is the case with Personnel, Engineering and Accountancy. Sadly this concept was not recognised in the recently launched CMI Manifesto for Scotland.

The CMI should act as an employment agency enabling employers to gain access to the CMI membership, which 4 years ago was agreed to be run as a pilot in Scotland. This will significantly increase CMI membership. Being a member of the Board I would see this pilot through.

Graham Walker - Fife Branch

I am a Business & Management Curriculum Leader & Lecturer at Carnegie College, Dunfermline.

With full CMI membership gained over ten years, through my career in military warfare operations I have applied my skills to civilian life in teaching business management.

My ability to change and adapt to new situations and challenges is demonstrated through my skill of tackling new issues and showing leadership to get the job done.

Over the past three years as a CMI committee member I have played a significant role in the implementation and year-on-year improvement of the CMI Fife Branch Work Shadow Project. This brings together young business students with local business leaders to experience today’s management challenges.

I also have experience of representing the CMI Fife Branch at National Conference relating to educational matters and the importance of developing managers to tackle current issues.

Yvonne Harkness - Glasgow Branch

As Policy Manager at Student Loans Company, Yvonne heads up a specialist team working with all UK governments to introduce and amend and student finance policies. She has a varied management background gained within a range of public sector organisations from universities to local authorities. In 2009 she took her first step in private enterprise by cofounding an architectural design start up company.

I joined CMI as a time starved part-time MBA student seeking access to online resources.

Over the last decade I discovered CMI has much more to offer and have consequently become more involved - joining Women into Management’s Glasgow Events team and becoming an Ambassador. I believe managers need the support and resources of a strong professional organisation. I am willing to devote some of my time and expertise in policy development and collaborative working to the new Scottish Board in their aim of developing exactly that.

Sandra Marchment - Glasgow Branch

I am an MBA graduate with over 25 years management experience in both the private and public sector.

My career began in the airline industry, progressing in a number of different of management roles. I have worked extensively in the in the UK and Europe, where I experiences the cultural and sociological challenges facing managers. From there, my career path changed, where I encountered the different challenges facing SMEs. My academic and professional experience led me to become a business adviser, working with a very diverse portfolio of businesses. I have worked as a front line business manager in a war zone - Iraq, before taking on my current role, which best describes the main challenges facing today’s business and its managers – Business Change.

I believe I have the experience, knowledge, diversity, commitment and enthusiasm to add value to this role and more importantly the wider business community in Scotland.

David Marshall - Glasgow Branch

David is currently employed as a Chief Inspector with British Transport Police, based at Area Headquarters, Glasgow. I am 35 years old and have 17 years police service. I have served across Scotland (Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow) as well as in England (Birmingham) in various operational and non operational policing roles. In my current role as Chief Inspector (Operations) I am responsible for BTP’s operations in the West of Scotland with managerial responsibility for approximately 150 members of staff. I am a member of the Senior Management Team and as such support the Area Commander and rest of senior officer colleagues in shaping the strategic direction of the Area.
