The Chartered Manager brand - your thoughts?

Chartered Manager has its own brand

What do you think to the new logo, is this a good way to help raise the profile of Chartered Manager?

I like the idea of a CMgr brand and the logo for letterheads and business cards.  However, I am not impressed with the badge.  I consider it bold and brash.  I expect to see badges like that on a baseball cap, not a business suit.  I would have thought a much smaller gold or silver lapel pin would be more appropriate and more popular.

Many thanks for your input Dave.  I will feed this back to our Marketing Department who set the guidelines for the minimal size of usage.

Kind regards

Joanna, CMgr Development Manager

Agree with the comments and suggestions put forward by Mike    The brand and logo looks good on business cards, but looks and feels out of place on a suit.

could not agree more with regard to the badge.     Subtle and understated would be much more preferable for lapels.

Some good feedback guys.  I am absolutely hopeless at design so can offer scant assistance.  Have you seen a badge design that you like elsewhere?

Why a badge

As an alternative, what about cufflinks for those of us who wear suits.  The existing badge as a cufflink might be a talking point and not look so out of place.  Let the lady's suggest something they would be happy wearing, then lets have some choice.

I have been wearing my Chartered Manager Badge now for a few months. I am happy with it and it has attracted attention and prompted a number of questions. I would not want to have it any smaller.

Ties and cufflinks are menswear and therefore not appropriate for CMgr in my view.

Ray Took your advice and wore my badge this morning " on my suit " have had two enquires from staff which turned into interesting discussions, I am glad to have read your comment and taken what you said on board Dave I wear a suit and tie and cufflinks on days that I have meetings internally or with customers externally, menswear I agree, but disagree that they are inappropriate.  I looked up your attached website which I found very good.  The only thing I thought could be improved upon was more merchandise that was suitable for all Chartered Managers. I think we all need choice and be comfortable in what we wear.  Having now experienced wearing the badge and getting a positive reaction, I will continue to do so.  But my preference remains the same.  I like the badge and design, it is simply the size that I was uncomfortable with

I was based not far from there, in Mattarello, on the outskirts of Trento.  It really is a lovely part of the world.  Sure you'll have a great time.

Tom you look great.

It would be good to hear about other Chartered Manager's experiences of wearing their badges, and to see their photo's too.

I better get a photo with mine on.

Joanna

I agree with the Tom Doran; Cufflinks it's a very good idea and very impessive.

I like the idea of a pin - ideally small and understated. I wear the badge on a jacket but agree it is a bit loud.

Susan, your busy tonight, seem to be following your threads on a number of topics,  Yes loud but I have been wearing it and it does get some strange looks followed by the closer look followed by the what? question.  I am still hopeful I will get my cufflinks

Yes - the branding for letterheads etc is good but the badge is a little large - it seems to concentrate on the CMI and, at a distance, is similar to the ILM Fellows badge.  The Princes' Trust one is perhaps a little small.  It should be gender-neutral and build ethos for both the Institute and Chartered Managers.  Perhaps smaller than currently, circular with the CMI spelt out around the edge, with the CMgr in gold on a white background in the centre.  Perhaps members should have the same type but wth CMI in the centre?  Everyone receives a badge on enrolment and, as they progress, so the badge design changes?  A concept - the font etc needs to be appropriate and I am sure someone can improve on it.

Steve, looks like you have thought this out.  Like this idea.

What do you think Joanna

Hi

Did this discussion go anywhere?

I think the opportunity for people to advertise CMgr status is a good one but am interested to see if consideration was given to this being done in a more understated way?

A tie pin perhaps?

Yes - disappointing that what had been a fairly interactive discussion drew no feedback from the marketing department or Council.  Given that we are encouraged to lead the way in the CMI as Chartered Managers and sell the brand,  it makes you wonder just how much attention is given to Chartered Managers' opinions?  Is it becoming a revenue stream for the Institute - we get the same access to CMI resources, a certificate and a badge but little else - just as well we are so self-motivated to improve our own practice and make a heavy financial investment each year in maintaining our status.

Thank you for your comments, which will all be considered moving forward.  We do have a stock of badges to use up in the meantime though!

Adi, it would be really good to hear from someone in the marketing team on their thoughts on the string above.

Thank you all for your comments. Some good ideas here which we're currently looking into. The first on the list is a review of the badge as it seems from your comments that this needs to be updated.

I'll make sure I keep you all informed of the progress via this thread.

Following on from John's comment - thank you all for the valuable feedback and suggestions. We will look into the options available and perhaps pop some on here for further discussion and to assist with the decision making.

John - as a CMgr it'd be great to see a photo of you sporting your badge or perhaps some of the alternative promotional options we come up with!

Perhaps the CMI should have a Fellows' badge too - perhaps this could be looked at along with the revamp of the CMgrs' badge?

A combined Fellows' / CMgrs' badge could also be an option.

Many thanks for your feedback Steven, we will definitely consider this when we redesign.
