Returning to UK after over 2.5 years in Germany
Hi everyone
I have been living in Munich since October 2008 and am returning by the end of August this year due to family reasons. I am going to be moving to Birmingham so that I am close to family.
I have applied for a transfer to the London office of my current employer, but should it not work out, will be up for a new challenge as of 01 September. The only thing is that I have never lived or worked in Birmingham before. To be honest however, I am not scared of a challenge. When I left the UK back then I neither had a job nor somewhere to live, I simply packed my suitcase and laptop and lived off the savings I still had. I ended up being unemployed for 3.5 months, but am glad I can say I went through the experience.
I am a fluent German speaker, having an MA (Hons) with Distinction in Spoken German. When this current stay in Germany draws to a close I will have lived in Germany for a total of about 6 years dating back to my uni days. I have an MSc in Management (despite only previously attaining a GCSE in Business Studies) and recently joined the CMI as I knew a return to the UK was on the cards. I am currently working as an Operations Specialist at the Munich office of a global top 7 US law firm. In terms of professional experience I have a clear line of customer facing and operations roles in bilingual working environments, predominantly working for international companies. My main skill areas are in process optimisation and project management. Should the transfer not work out, this is something I would certainly be looking into, although HR has also drawn my interest of late.
I guess that's all I can say in the way of an introduction.
Chris, 1st welcome home, 2nd quite impressive.
Thanks Tom - a few hurdles to get over bfore the move home in 2 months.
In a way I am looking forward to being home and not having to struggle to have my qualifications understood. I love Germany, but it is still a country with a Master & Apprentice tradition. If you haven't studied it vocationally, then you can't work it... Very strenuous making people understand you don't need a qualification for everything.
I'll keep you posted on how things go.
I just heard today that there are no suitable positions in the London offices of my current employer so will be available in Birmingham area from 01 September.
Any tips on where to seek the next challenge much appreciated.
Hi Chris, posted my thoughts on your impressive CV just a minute ago, but a big welcome to the community from me. Hope to see you around the discussions.
Mike.
Howdy Chris. We've obviously spoken briefly over email about posting up your CV, but a welcome to the community from me as well. You've got my details so if there's anything I can help with let me know.
Thanks Mike and Adi - will be sure to be in touch.
