Is there anybody there (in Lincolnshire) ?

Hi to all. Are there any members out there in deepest Lincs? Why not post and introduce yourself? I guess I should start then.

Shaun Parkes aged 48 (for a few more days!), married with a grown-up daughter from my  first marriage. Have been in managment positions since my mid 20s and have been involved in advertising / publishing, warehouse / logistics management for an international cabel and networking company, and in supplying defence materials iuncluding weapons and ammunition to foreign governments.

Am also an instructor with the Air Cadets holding the rank of Squadron Leader in the Training Branch of the RAF Volunteer Reserve. Hold Level 6 and 7 qualifications (Bachelors and Masters) in managment related topics and should hear (hopefully) any day now about achieving CMgr status too.

Interests include shooting (rarely get the opportunity to shoot these days as am normally running ranges for others to shoot!), first aid, reading (Gerald Seymour, Lee Child, Tom Sharpe) and current affairs. Oh and eating and drinking / socialising of course !

Well that's me! Hello!

  • It is rather quiet here on the CMI front in Lincs. Perhaps some invigoration is required.

I've only been a member for about 9 months, 6 of which I have spent in Afghanistan, so I am yet to realise any tangible benefit to membership. I hope to now make the most of what CMI has to offer. Is there anything going on in Lincolnshire with CMI to get involved in?

As way of introduction, I am a Royal Air Force Officer working in an Air Command Force Headquarters managing Intelligence, Surveillance & Reconnaissance (ISR) Force Elements. I am involved in both Operations Management and Future Change Management. I have 16 years of managerial experience in a variety of roles within the RAF and Defence Community including Operations, Personnel, Training and Project Management. I’m have qualified as: Imagery Analyst, Intelligence Officer, Electronic Warfare Officer, Targeteer, Staff Officer (qss), Air Battlestaff Officer (qbs), Training Course Designer, Defence Instructor, Mobile Team Challenge Facilitator, Qualified Weapons Instructor (QWI ISR) and Collection Manager. I have also been awarded a Graduateship of the City & Guilds Institute (GCGI) a Senior Award in Leadership & Management.

  • Hobbies and interests include genealogy, military history, social networking, ‘good life’ gardening and outward bound pursuits including geo-caching, hill-walking and skiing. I consider myself a ‘foodie’ with a passion for cooking with quality seasonal ingredients, fine dining and local farmers markets. I’m a keen amateur restaurant reviewer for Urbanspoon and the No.1 reviewer in the East Midlands Region. I dabble at yacht sailing and power-boating having gained RYA Day Skipper, RYA Level 2 Powerboat with Coastal Endorsement and various other shore-based RYA courses. I’m a member of the RAF Sailing Association, and have been involved with both Offshore and Safety Divisions.  I’m married to a Relationship Manager for the Department of Business and live in Saxilby, Lincolnshire with her 2 children and we are expecting no.3 (one of our own) any day; being a family man is my favourite pastime. I’m a member of the RAF Association, Royal British Legion, UK National Defence Association, Medmenham Club, RAF Historical Society, RAF Intelligence Officers Association, and am a life member of the 31 Squadron Association. A proud Humanist, i’m a member of the British Humanist Association, UK Armed Forces Humanist Association and a supporter of the Brights Movement.

As they say in Yorkshire (where I was brought up), Aye Up.

Aye up Lincolnshire folk.

I'm Darren Bugg, the Chairman of the Central and West Yorkshire branch. We are extremely active here in Yorkshire.

Although based in Leeds since the mid-1980s, I'm actually from Lincoln originally and I return there virtually every week for family reasons (and Lincoln City FC !!) so if there is anything I can do to help your branch get moving, then please just let me know.

Does the Lincoln branch ever meet together?

Ther was a very active Lincolnshire branch - I was the Treasurer intil 2007 when I became ill.   It was amalgamated with others to become the East Midlands branch if I remember rightly.   It was a shame because the meetings - which had excellent presentations - were well attended and the annual dinner was very good.
