Developing courses for Christians in management
Submitted by Clair Fisher FCMI on Wed, 16/02/2011 - 18:25
I'm working with a Christian conference and training provider in the South East to explore opportunities for day courses / 2 day retreat type event aimed at Christians in management . I'd be really interested in finding out whether there are any existing business networks for Christians that I could link in with for this development work (either through CMI or elsewhere... please not the ones that are men only....), and interested to hear from anyone who might ever be interested in going to this sort of course / retreat about what sort of thing you'd find useful.
post discussion here, or contact me direct clairfisher3181@o2.co.uk
thanks.
Does it have to be for Christians Clair? Interested to hear how management would differ for Christians to other faiths (or atheists).
It would be an opportunity to explore a christian perspective on management, the theory of management content would be very similar. Everyone would be welcome, but as we're planning that the event would also include elements of bible teaching, possible reflection / prayer / worship as well as the management content it would probably be more attractive to those who had a christian faith.
Fair enough.
Really interesting idea, Clair.
I am aware of a group called MODEM which has an interest in management skills for church leaders - see http://www.modem-uk.org/ I believe some CMI members are involved with this...and we have a book they produced in the CMI library: "Leading, managing, ministering, 1999"
There's also TransformWorkUK http://www.transformworkuk.org/ which focuses on Christians in the workplace, without focusing specifically on management. They have links with lots of Christian workplace and professional groups. The Librarians' Christian Fellowship had a working party on library management in the 90s which produced a report. I was involved at the time but don't remember much about it now. See here: http://www.librarianscf.org.uk/about/workparties.html
Spring Harvest did a conference focusing on work some years ago which I attended. Again, more about Christians in the workplace generally rather than management, but I'm don't think they're still active in this area.
From: http://www.springharvest.org/about-us/history/
"1998: Spring Harvest unveiled plans to develop its activities - the first new initiative being 'At Work Together', a conference for leaders in both the sacred and secular workplaces. Alongside the developments a new corporate identity was also launched. "
I'll let you know if I think of anything else....
Thanks Mary, that's all really interesting and useful stuff, and I'll follow it up!
Hi Clair, I would be interested in more information about this event if you were able to get it organised.
Andrea - hopefully get something in the spring 2012 programme - e-mail me your details and I'll get back to you if we can make it happen. clairfisher3181@o2.co.uk
