Does management need a Nobel Prize?

That’s it for another year. Monday’s award of the Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel to Thomas Sargent and Christopher Sims brings to an end the 2011 Nobel season. But is there room for one more: a Nobel prize for management?

Do we need a Nobel Prize for management?  Who would be your selection for the prize?

Hmm, interesting idea.  As you'll probably know, I'm all for celebrating great managers so something like this would be a good thing.  I wonder if it would be for academics or people actually managing though?

If it's true to form of other prizes it'd probably be an academic thing, but you should probably look no further than Steve Jobs were you to award a prize this year.

How about Sir Michael Wilshaw, Principal at Mossbourne Academy in Hackney? Pronounced the "worst school in Britain" in the 90's it now has been turned around to being the "best comprehensive in the country" with all students going on to university and last year had 6 students going to Cambridge. The principal has been a key figure in leading this change.
