Skills to develop in 2012?

It's that time of year when all the lists about Top 100 this and Top 100 that are starting to be published.

Amongst the many that came into my inbox was an interesting one from The University of Phoenix which listed the Top 10 skills needed to survive in the workplace.

Amongst them were such skills as "sense making", "social intelligence" and "cognitive load management". Which made me start thinking about the skills I'd like to develop next year.

Top of my list is networking - both online and via events.

What one skill would you like to develop next year?

Gosh - only one ??

To learn balance - not to drive myself to the point of exhaustion

I can maintain outer calm - I need to learn to maintain inner calm. To position oneself in serenity as one manager said. To be able to maintain inner emotional calm, even when employees get excited about X, Y and Z !

Hello John.

I notice these are for 2020 which is fortunate as I'll need some time to understand several of the skills they mention such as Transdisciplinarity and Cognitive Load Management!

If I had to pick one for next year it would be to think up more creative solutions to client problems and requirements.

Forbes has a nice article on 5 investments you can make to improve your career

Some good tips there Adi.

I start my Diploma in Digital Marketing this month so now doubt I'll learn new skills on this too.

Katherine I think the psychologists call keeping yourself calm using your “locus of control”.  Adi There is some change in emphasis on wording as some traditional skills are updated for current and future working environments. Mine for 2012 would be similar to Vince’s I need to keep coming up with ever more creative ideas to save time and money whilst maintaining customer satisfaction with less resources. Then I can spend some time on Transdisciplinarity stuff and the like. Or maybe I’ll just call Paul Daniels and see what he can do for me.

John I’d be interested in hearing from you on how the course is going as I wish to learn more about digital marketing.

Thanks Thomas. I'll keep you updated and may even be consulting the community for expert opinion as the course progresses.
