A Question of Style - Management Style not Fashion

Good afternoon one and all,
I know in this huge world of management there are many management styles and ways to integrate into a team as a manager. I just wanted to pose the question to the world out there for my benefit and hopefully other new managers.
What is your preferred management style? What style gets the most out of staff, do you find?
How did you go about settling into your management position and integrating into the team (past and or present roles)?
Thanks all.
Just a bit of fun, but have you played http://www.comparethemanager.com Sam? It's a fun quiz that gives you your 'management style'.
Anyway, as you were :)
No..must try it lol
Oh no!! I just got compared to Simon Cowell and Victoria Beckham...Alan Sugar I don't mind so much lol
Apparantly my management strength is managing myself...well, no one else will manage me for me will they lol
I don't manage people much really, but the managers I've liked the best, and to be honest this applies to teachers and that as well, are the charismatic ones that are a bit out there. Y'know? The ones that really inspire you because they love what they're doing. Ambivalence isn't good in a manager.
You mean the sort that obviously enjoy what they do? With a bit of personality thrown in?

Yeah I think so. I like to feel inspired when I go to work, like what we do makes a difference. It hasn't really happened much in my career thus far mind you.
You should think yourself lucky. It came up with Deborah Meaden for me. Ugh.

I think you're right. Having a passion for what you do and showing your enthusiasm is essential and very inspiring for your team. If you don't enjoy what you do how can your team ever want to help you deliver results.
I was an Alex Ferguson!
I agree Madeleine.
I also believe in having an open door and MBWA. Listening is critical.
I came up as Andrew Strauss!
My ideal management style would be someone that took an interest in what I did and helped me to do my job better.
