What is the biggest mistake a leader can make?

For me the biggest mistake a leader can make is assuming they know it all.

Say one thing. Do the complete opposite.

Ignoring and inhibiting others

Trying to please everyone and being thin-skinned.

Take actions with out understanding the tasks in hand.

Excellent video Mike.  I am not sure that there is one right answer as can be evidenced by the different opinions expressed in the video. I think it boils down to the particular situation or event experienced by the individual of the manager which can be any one of the issues mentioned by the experts in the video.

Not recognise and develop the talent that is around them.

All of the above and would add not taking them for granted.  I have some fantastic talent working with me, and I try to say thank you as often as I can.

Not inolving the team and treating everyone as equals despite the position which they hold

I feel as a Team Leader the biggest mistake you can make, is making out you know everything. When asked questions you try to answer without having all the facts. This results in looking daft when the person asking the questions knows the correct answer but is trying to trip you up.

Not admitting to your short-comings.

Managers are not infallible, perfectly programmed machines with a 0% error rate.

Not learning from your mistakes!
