You're the manager of Portsmouth...

The difficulties facing Portsmouth Football Club have hit the news in recent weeks with the club facing a winding up order over unpaid taxes. Portsmouth could become the first Premier League club to enter administration after talks between their lawyers and Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs failed to avert a winding-up petition in the high court.
If you were the manager of the club, how would you act to get them out of their difficulties?
With the benefit of hindsight, they look to be beyond help. I'd be scouting around for a new job.

Difficult one isn't it. I guess you'd look to cut costs as much as possible. Get the big wage earners off the staff and try to consolidate in the lower leagues until they can start to plan for getting back up. The most important thing is to learn from this situation. So many don't seem to.
Indeed. But then do they not learn because the punishment doesn't go far enough? Is it enough just to deduct points?

It seems indicative of the state of football that none of the players have volunteered to take a pay cut. I know they've had one or two issues with payment, but really they all earn vast sums, and a small cut would make much more of a difference to the club than the sacking of 85 support staff last week.
Maybe they just think the writing is on the wall anyway, so they might as well get what they can and then find a new club, if finding a new club is an inevitability anyway.
