After humble beginnings on a cold, wet, windy night in October 2016 we have come long way in a relatively short period of time. So what have been the success factors?
- Sticking to our values. Our aim is to provide value for money CPD events and networking opportunities to the talented and under represented workforce in this area. Giving members something back for their membership.
- Strong collaboration partners. Over the last 12 months we have built strong relationships with venues, ensuring that a “circuit” is in place to cover all parts of the geographical area. Growing relationships with other Professional bodies through joint events addressing common goals have significant benefits for both memberships. Our current partners include CIPD and IoD, with CIM coming on board in the near future. We are also delighted to have secured a partnership with a local recruitment company whose enthusiasm and passion about CMI, along with their curiosity to be part of the journey, has been a considerable factor in the network’s success.
- Event content and speakers. From early research it was identified that soft skill development was the way to go, and a programme of events was arranged around this. Speakers were sourced from recommendations, social media connections, previous networking events and other business support organisations.
So, what does the future hold? Next year, 2018, will be a significant year for the network. Increased demand has led to expansion into Hull. At least 3 events will be held there next year. The showcase of these being the first, an event entitled Hull Trains – The secret to their Success. This is a great opportunity to celebrate the success of a local company in a very competitive market. Final arrangements are being made, so look out for this one on events listings in the next few months.
Student engagement is a vital target area next year. These are the managers and leaders of the future. If CMI can help, even in a small way, to equip them with the skills they need to lead an organisation, that would be great.
We have targeted 100 attendees next year and this is where we need your help. We can have the best locations, speakers and subject matter, but it is all fruitless if no one attends. Over the last year we have delivered CPD and networking events to hundreds of managers and leaders in the area, but we need to spread the word further, so at the next event you attend bring a colleague, friend, sibling, neighbour, everyone is welcome whether they are members or not.
Here are a few things our delegates have said about events so far:
“Thoroughly enjoyed it and took in a number of learning tricks"
“Excellent speaker “
“insightful & practical speakers - with excellent topics - really helpful “
“The speaker was excellent + delivery was articulate, making the seminar very interesting”
“Excellent presentation with useful tools to take away”
In a nutshell, we couldn’t do it without the partnerships we have made and all the people who have attended various events around the network. So a big thank you to all of you from the core team and let’s continue this exciting journey into the unknown, stronger together.
