Individual - John Sharp

The Chartered Management Institute has given me the opportunity to broaden my knowledge and awareness and to network at all levels. This has contributed to my confidence, abilities and success throughout my career.

John Sharp

I joined the Institute at the end of my management studies in 1982 because I wished to continue to develop my management knowledge and professionalism.  Through the local branch activities I made contact with managers across a wide variety of organisations.  I gained awareness of local management issues and examples of best practice which allowed me to communicate with confidence with senior management of the customers I managed for BT.

I became Chair of the local branch and worked very closely with the local university to improve  training for the local business community.  Through my CMI relationship with the university I have been able to serve on the Governing body for the past 12 years.  By doing so I have developed my strategic and financial skills.

I believe that Fellows of the Institute have a duty to give back for the benefit of others.  I have been able to serve on the Institute's Council, Executive Committee and Chaired the Membership Committee for two years.  I have gained benefits myself during this period by being able to network very senior managers from some of the top UK organisations.

The Chartered Management Institute has given me the opportunity to broaden my knowledge and awareness and to network at all levels.  This has contributed to my confidence, abilities and success throughout my career.
