John Sharp FCMI
John Sharp is currently the Managing Director and Principal Consultant of Kiln House Associates Ltd He works with a broad range of organisations helping them to deliver business continuity management (BCM) awareness and training, developing strategies and processes to establish their business continuity practices.
Prior to this John was CEO of the Business Continuity Institute for 7 years with the responsibility for delivering services to members throughout the world and working with all facets of industry, commerce and government to enhance the understanding and commitment to business continuity as a key management discipline.
John started his working life as a trainee engineer telecommunications engineer with BT in 1962 and subsequently held senior positions in engineering, major account sales and sector marketing where he ran a team responsible for the automotive industry, construction, manufacturing, printing, publishing and local government sectors.
He is actively involved in standards development in the business continuity area. John is a regular speaker and chair at conferences in the UK and abroad and has lectured at UK universities and is an Associate Course Director at the UK Government Emergency Planning College. He is the author of the BSI’s publication, The Route Map to Business Continuity Management.
John Sharp is recognised world-wide for the contributions he has made to Business Continuity Management. In 2004 he was made an Honorary Fellow of the Business Continuity Institute and at the 2004 BCM Awards in London was given a special award for his outstanding contribution to the industry. In 2005 John was given an award by US magazine CPM for the work he has done to raise the professionalism of BCM across the world.
John is Chair of the Audit Committee at the University of Wolverhampton, one of the largest UK universities and Vice Chair of Leigh and Bransford Parish Council and where he is responsible for the development of the Community Resilience Plan.
