Professor Robin Field-Smith MBE CMgr CCMI (Chairman)
Professor Robin Field-Smith MBE MA CMgr CCMI Chartered FCIPD served in the Regular Army from 1971 until 2000, ending his service as the senior Army member of the Defence Training Review Team, having led the process for the Army to be an Investor in People.
From 2000 to 2009 he was one of HM Inspectors of Constabulary for policing in England Wales and Northern Ireland, with a portfolio for personnel, training and diversity issues. He published over 60 inspection reports, including “Diversity Matters” and forged links with CRE, EOC, and EDHR. He led inspection activity in response to the “Secret Policeman”, and the CRE Formal Investigation, advised Ministers on workforce capability and equalities compliance, and assisted CPSI with their first formal inspection of organisational capability.
He remains a Vice-President of the National Association of Chaplains to the Police, an accredited senior police assessor, and is on the panel of Independent Members for Chief Police Officer appointments.
He is now a lay member of the Employment Tribunal (London Central), and of two Bar Standards Board committees. He is a visiting Professor at Portsmouth University (ICJS), an Associate of the Open University and Birkbeck College, a member of the City and Guilds Quality and Standards Committee, and a Freeman of the City of London. He is a trustee of 3 charities, one of which he chairs.
