Roger Hall FCMI
Roger’s career has included twenty years in industry and twenty years in Higher Education. He was managing director of a manufacturing company before moving to a college of further and higher education where he managed and taught on CMI and CIPD courses. A subsequent move took him to the University of Huddersfield, where as head of general management provisions and MBA Director, he integrated CMI qualifications with academic awards (BA, CMS, DMS, MBA) and embedded the Chartered Manager standards within the University MBA.
Roger has a PhD from the University of Salford, Masters degrees from UMIST, Salford and Manchester and a BA from the University of Leeds. He has been a Chartered Manager since 2003 and is a Fellow of eight professional bodies.
Since 2008 he has been a part-time self-employed consultant. His portfolio work includes teaching on DBA, MBA and MSc courses, university external examiner, PhD examiner, working as Approval Panel Chair, External Moderator and External Verifier for CIPD and a range of voluntary roles including upgrading for CIPD’s National Panel and CMI roles: Regional Board Vice-Chair, Practitioner Member Panel, Subject Matters Expert, Goodwill Ambassador, Mentor Panel member. Roger is also a reviewer for a number of professional bodies and peer-reviewed journals. He continues to contribute journal articles and has published extensively in areas of performance management and organizational development. In 2014 he won Outstanding Paper Award for an article on Appraisal in Euromed Journal of Business.
Roger was a magistrate for 27 years. He was Chairman of the City of Salford Bench for three years and Chairman of the Greater Manchester Bench Chairmen’s Forum. He was a founder member of CAMRA in North Manchester in 1974 and served as Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer for almost thirty years. He is married with two children and five grandchildren. He enjoys snooker, real ale and travelling to unusual destinations.
