CMI responded to the Ministry of Defence’s consultation paper on the future of military reservists.
In general we welcome the Department’s plans to formalise the relationship between reserves and employers, and in particular welcome plans to provide professionally accredited training to reservists. However, we point out that employers will find it difficult to lose key staff, particularly from small organisations, and that employers will only value training if it is relevant to their business needs. We also caution against the MoD establishing a new “kitemark” scheme for employers who support military reservist employees, and suggest instead that there could be metrics for valuing reservist employees incorporated into existing schemes such as Investors In People.
