The Management Articles of the Year report features five of the best academic articles from 2013, as rated by CMI's members.
The winner of this year's competition, Dr Jules Goddard of London Business School, labels UK businesses' over-reliance on cost cutting as a ‘perilous, nonsensical and lazy option’ as he picked up the top prize in the competition for his article The Fatal Bias
The article explores why controlling costs has become the most prevalent management strategy of modern times despite the fact that evidence shows it is counterproductive as a route to long term growth. Routes to achieve growth and innovation were at the heart of this year's collection of CMI Management Articles of the Year, with themes ranging from the use of competitions to solve complex business issues to innovating for sustainable business.
