Businesses managers often have days full of meetings and can find it difficult to maintain their concentration and stay focus on what is being discussed.
Profitability specialist Hilary Briggs, managing director of R2PLtd and former chairman of the Academy of Chief Executives in London, said that a wandering mind can impact management skills by increasing the chances of making poor decisions and bad time management.
She suggested that in order to improve concentration, business leaders should do the obviously things, like prepare in advance and take notes, but also remember to eat and take regular exercise to improve and maintain stamina.
"Some of you might have turned pale at the thought of doing strenuous exercise, or any other type of improvement activity and have already made the easy dismissal – 'I haven't got time for that' – Remember, top performers do make time," Ms Briggs said.
A recent Right Management study recently found that strategic vision is one of the most sought after management skills.

Prepare in advance and take notes...seems rather obvious.
Eating and regular exercise sounds obvious too. It never ceases to amaze me that people keep needing to be reminded!
It's that knowing doing gap again Vince. People know what's right, but still persist in doing what's wrong :)
I found that exercise really helps during stressful periods at work. Walking up four floors, twice a day, instead of using lift suffices for me.
I know I start to feel the pressure of work much more if I let my gym days slip when I’m ‘too busy’ – and as you say Adrian – I know myself it is when I’m really busy at work that I need to keep my fitness régime going but I still sometime let it slip, to my detriment.
Taking exercise also reduces the build up of stress
You don;t need to go to a gym - just switch off the mobile and take a 15 minute walk, it get's you fresh air as well as removing you from the office environment.
I find that going to the gym and pushing some serious weights around really focuses the mind when it needs to - as well as providing discipline in many aspects of life not just work.
But there again - a casual walk in the fresh air helps me gather thoughts and enables effective planning - especially on crispy frosty mornings.
