Employers 'focusing on staff performance'

An expert has claimed that those with management skills are 'obsessed' with boosting the performance of their employees.

Duncan Bannatyne OBE, founder and chairman of Bannatyne Fitness, said that the recession has caused many staff to face tougher workloads as they try to avoid losing their job, but managers are still trying to push employees to their limits.

Writing for the Telegraph, Mr Bannatyne suggested that employers should be working to help their workforce and keep them at ease during the current economic turbulence in order to get the most out of them.

"Managers must focus their employees on the job, rather than on the fear of losing it, and pay proper attention to both the professional and the human interests of their staff," he advised.

Recent data from the Office for National Statistics showed that the number of unemployed people in the UK rose again over the last three months, with almost 2.5 million out-of-work people in the country.

Sound advice, perhaps... but how realistic?  If people aren't made to feel unsure about the job prospects within the workplace, they'll soon be brought crashing back to reality when they get home and turn on the news...
