More and more firms offering career development opportunities are turning to online CV databases over recruitment ads to try and cut costs, an industry expert has claimed.
A spokesman for Jobsite explained that businesses are now demonstrating a "more cautious" approach to their recruitment spend.
He added that more companies are making decisions on which job board to use based solely on price, drawing on data from the website's latest Quarterly Recruitment Review.
Figures from the survey revealed that online job boards have become more popular as a recruitment tool than newspaper adverts for the first time since Jobsite began to measure these factors in 2008.
"It seems that active job seekers are still hard to find - and businesses that need good candidates are still having to go out and look for them, rather than wait for them to respond to advertising," he concluded.
The comments from Jobsite come after the Chartered Institute for Personnel and Development revealed the first quarter of 2012 will be the most difficult yet for the jobs market.
