Health and safety managers at small businesses will now have access to a 'toolkit' of H&S advice following a "radical revamp" of workplace guidance by the national regulator for health and safety.
The Health and Safety Toolbox is part of a move by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) to consolidate workplace safety advice in one easy-to-reach place for small and low-risk firms.
The package of guidance is designed to be concise, easily navigable and to-the-point so that employers don't waste "precious time" reading what they don't need to.
Managers could consider using the toolkit as part of their management development, to broaden their understanding of the H&S challenges facing smaller firms.
The toolkit includes sections on common workplace health and safety risks, such as manual handling, trip hazards and harmful substances, as well as tips on protective equipment.
Mark Hoban, the employment minister, said: "Small and low risk businesses should be focusing their time on growing and becoming a success, not having to waste precious time and money on unnecessary bureaucracy.
"This toolbox will make it quick and simple for businesses to discover everything they need to know about health and safety."
