Lack of sleep 'negatively impacting job productivity'

A lack of sleep is hitting the job productivity of many of the UK's workers, new figures have suggested, which may concern those who are aiming to build up their employee skills.

Of those queried as part of Bupa research, as many as 24 per cent of respondents with sleep problems said their productivity is low.

Meanwhile, job satisfaction was said to be 23 per cent lower among such people.

Dr Ian Mak, a sleep expert from Bupa, feels that decision-making is one ability that may be hit by sleep deprivation.

He noted: "The effects of sleep deprivation have led scientists to believe that a good night's sleep is essential for people to be able to function properly on a daily basis."

When it comes to employee productivity in the public sector meanwhile, Peter Reilly, director of HR research and consultancy at the Institute for Employment Studies, recently noted that employers may need to accentuate the positives.
