Management and leadership skills play an important role in the workplace, particularly in times of change and upheaval, according to Right Management.
The organisation highlighted good line management practices as a key consideration for businesses looking to drastically alter their business model or operating procedures.
Jayne Carrington, managing director of Right Management, explained that giving employees a voice through staff forums can go a long way to help them adjust to change.
She noted that good change programmes often have a team of people with strong leadership skills, who can communicate with, and are respected by members of staff.
According to Ms Carrington, understanding the problems associated with major change in the workplace is what leadership and line management is all about.
Health secretary Andrew Lansley recently called on GPs with leadership and management skills to come to the fore during changes to the National Health Service.
He said that GPs, who know the local population best, should be in a position to improve care for patients.
