Workers in the public sector are now more likely to accept a pay cut or move to another region in order to keep their job, a new survey has revealed.
Two-thirds of people would be willing to have their pay reduced now, compared to just one in five before the election, according to the research carried out by Totaljobs.com.
Some 1,600 people looking for jobs in public sector organisations were polled by the recruitment website.
John Salt, director of Totaljobs.com, said: “Public sector jobseekers have a high level of transferable skills. However in today’s market, this isn’t enough.
"Jobseekers need to be flexible to secure that next position and it seems that they finally understand this."
Recently, research by recruitment consultants Badenoch & Clark revealed that more than three-quarters (77 per cent) of people who agreed to pay cuts during the recession to avoid redundancy have not seen their salary return to original levels.

It's a sensible approach, although obviously if you have a family/bills etc. then it becomes quite a bit harder.
