Recruiters can help armed forces back into work

With a further 4,200 job losses to come in the armed forces, the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) has said recruiters can play a "crucial role" in helping those affected find a new career development opportunity.

The organisation's Institute of Recruitment Professionals (IRP) explained that guidance and support can help those made redundant make the best of their skills.

Steve Bentham-Bates, a fellow of the IRP, said that having access to an effective support network and employment experts is key for those leaving the armed forces.

"Ultimately, it is about being able to underline and accentuate the transferability of the skills and competencies that have been acquired," he explained.

Mr Bentham-Bates added that part of the task of finding employment for those affected by the cuts includes identifying training needs and sourcing the right career development opportunities.

Recruitment professionals are expected to play a crucial role as the cuts begin to impact the armed forces.
