Stronger business and education links 'can promote career development'

Stronger links between education and business can promote management and leadership skills among young people, which will boost career development options in the future, one expert has said.

Tara Daynes, HR expert and training specialist, said that careers fairs at schools and working with students, can boost career awareness and business skills.

"I feel that all these things give schoolchildren a far better level of awareness of what to expect when they join the work environment, and helps them to respond to and manage that change more effectively when the time comes," she added.

The expert went on to say that the transition from education to business can be "very difficult" and went on to note that more interaction between students and workers can help boost the skills that are often not covered by academic study.

She noted that things such as handling meetings, presentations, influencing and negotiating skills are all important and are generally skipped by education.
