Using social media tools in the workplace can improve communication and make better collaboration with clients and staff, according to a group of experts.
Social networking software company Reality Digital said that businesses can cut communication costs by adopting social networks, but using these systems can also have other benefits.
Jason Falls, a social media consultant and blogger on socialmediaexplorer.com, said that companies that do promote social networking may give their staff "a much greater sense of pride in a company that embraces innovation and empowers them to use it".
He added that while using social networks can be beneficial internally they can also help the business flourish in the online realm as allowing workers access to social media then "gives you an ad-hoc sales force that organically grows the conversation and positive interactions with your brand in the online space".
Research by Reality Digital found that larger companies with multiple offices are being urged to utilise social networking technology to their advantage as a way for employees to communicate with each other more efficiently and effectively, saving costs and improving management skills at the same time.
What makes you proud of your company?

Aditi asks what makes me proud of my company? A good question upon which I took time to reflect. I have two answers - the people and our products. The people I work with, each of whom have their own unique blend of skills, experience and personality traits, all of whom share the same passion and values for what we do and how we do it - and importantly for us, a great sense of humour. Our products reflect that passion and a desire to create a learning experience which inspires, encourages collaboration and facilitates growth and development both individually and for the organisation.
Hmm, so a social media company recommends using social media in business? There's a shocker :)
Hi Karen - it isn't really a surprise is it.
I can't help wondering whether people will see all of this as a cynical ploy by companies to hijack social media for their own business gains and find it backfires? People don't like being manipulated.
I know one firm who pay people to post blogs on sites to boost their wareness ratings and search positions.
Mind you, Adi has played a blinder with the competition to boost the amount of comments on the management blog!
