Diary of an Intern- Day 11
Day 11 and I feel I am well and truly settled in, have been kept very busy over the last few days, helping Narinder and Kat research and compile information for the companions nominations.
I have also written a guest piece for managementsushi.com on the value of internships with particular focus on the value in a 2.0 world, a debate which is picking up momentum in the UK now after Seth Godin kicked it all of with his blog about free work vs. internships. I have found it interesting to see how the use of social media to create a digital footprint can be a massive help to graduates looking for jobs as it is completely free and is a tangible example of ones work. It is particularly useful as future employers can find these if they Google you, something employers are increasingly keen on doing to learn more about candidates.
This afternoon Adi and I will be venturing into Covent Garden to shoot a video, asking people what they think makes a good manager, this will be posted at a later stage, hopefully some point this week, on our youtube channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/cmimanagers

Sounds like you have been busy Agatha and I look forward to reading your Covent Garden report.
You are spot on in terms of the use of social media but I also think there is a buyer beware in there too as we need to balance the social with the professional and it's not just us - we need to be careful with comments and links that our friends/contacts leave as sometimes these can give a prospective employer the wrong impression.
I agree Susan. There are pluses and minuses of using social media.
Hi Agatha - look forward to seeing your video clips, sounds like you are enjoying your placement!
Thank you for all your comments, and yes I am enjoying the internship enomously, everyone is really friendly and the tasks I have been given are interesting and useful to the company which makes me feel valued.
I agree with you both, Vince and Susan, using social media as a means through which to promote yourself and your talents can prove to be something of a mindfield, but I hope my blog is a positive means through which to share my experiences and the things i have learnt!
