IT managers and project manager roles 'most at risk during recession'
As IT departments cut costs, it is the project managers and IT managers whose jobs are most at risk, according to new research.
IT Contractor.com, the news advice portal, has said that project managers are most under threat because "projects get cancelled or put on hold when companies are cutting costs".
Gerry McLaughlin from the company explained that IT managers are also "in danger in a downturn" because companies which are looking to reduce their spending conclude that they can outsource their IT departments.
IT workers who get made redundant should make sure their skills are up to date to give themselves a good chance of getting a new job and enhancing career development added Mr McLaughlin, as those with outdated skills "may struggle to get work when the downturn is over".
According to a report from the Associated Press published this week, Microsoft will hire at least 400 workers from internet services firm Yahoo if government regulators approve the companies' proposed internet search partnership.
