IT sector could see management brain drain

Brain drain could be experienced in the IT sector as workers consider a change of career, it has been claimed.brain drain

According to new research by recruitment experts The IT Job Board, offshoring of staff was cited as the main reason for the reduction in the number of people with technical leadership and training skills working in the sector.

The study also showed that a large proportion of those working in IT would consider relocating to another country such as Australia or the US for work.

Jamie Bowler, head of marketing at The IT Job Board, said: "The UK IT sector cannot afford to lose key individuals with specific technical knowledge and skills, both during the recession, and as we approach a possible upturn."

He added that the problem could be overcome if firms offer training skills and a clear career development programme for staff.

The IT Sector could soon start offering employees change management training as the European Commission calls for power use goals to be set.

What can UK IT managers do to compete?

I think it is an inevitable consequence of globalisation and won't be redressed until IT professionals in the UK feel valued and/or develop a niche. Maybe it is a sunset industry in the West and we need to focus on sunrise?
