Managers fear further downturn
One-third of people with management skills do not think that the recession is over yet, new research has revealed.
The poll from executive recruitment firm TheLadders.co.uk found that nearly three-quarters of managers (74 per cent) felt that further job cuts were likely.
A similar proportion of managers said that they knew someone who had recently been made redundant and the majority said they would not be hiring this year.
However, almost half (46 per cent) of those who are planning to recruit staff are doing so in order to generate more revenue through sales.
Derek Pilcher, managing director of TheLadders.co.uk, said: "Far from the cut back to the core mentality which sees businesses literally hibernating during periods of economic turbulence, recruiting individuals who can go out and create new opportunity has a knock-on effect across the organisation."
He added: "It is a positive sign in an otherwise very difficult market."

So can I infer from this that 2/3s of managers DO think the recession is practically over? That's rather positive whichever way you read it in my opinion.
Sorry, I'm confused:
1/3 do not think the recession is over yet, that's 33%.
74% felt that further job cuts were likely, that's 3/4.
So do 41% think that there will be further job cuts which are not as a result of the recession?
And despite all of this, 46% (say ½ for simplicity) are seeking to expand their business through recruitment.
What percentage of those asked understood the questions?!?!
Lies, lies and statistics :)
Lies, Damned Lies, and Statistics, indeed. But I mean with surveys like this - this is fairly reliable infomation - it is only intended to be used as an indicator.
